Creative Outputs

Alongside my career, I have built skills in photography, graphic design and illustration. Inspired by the Irish sea and family life, my creations are snippets of creativity that spark at random or an extension of a topic I am researching.

I have found these skills are crucially important in my role as a design researcher. Finding alternative ways to disseminate my findings and reach different audiences is an experimental process that I enjoy exploring.

One iteration of this includes a podcast I created as part of the final project task for the ‘Certificate in Radio and Podcast Production’ course I took in IADT in 2023. For this course, I created a piece of speculative fiction to highlight issues mothers face today, by creating a scenario in the future where a radio station reflect back on in this Mother’s Day special. This piece was an extension of my Master’s research which looked at the maternity care service in Ireland, particularly surrounding breastfeeding.

To create this work, I gathered friends and family as actors with a mixture of live and pre-recorded content. The entire 20-minutes is scripted apart from the live phone call which involved some improv. Listen to the 20-minute show by clicking on the link.
